Typography and Why it is, Somewhat, Overlooked

Most people underestimate one of the key elements of advertising. It is one of the oldest methods to advertise a business and has been around for thousands of years. This method is known as typography.

What is typography?

If I was to define the elusive Typography, I would say it is the art of both creating and arranging text in a visual manner, that will draw the eye.

It can be overlooked by many business owners. I think that this is because many of us believe that no one wants to read text. Well in some ways, yes..., but mainly it's very hard not to read a brilliantly presented piece of typography! You see typography everywhere and you may not notice it for that reason. It’s vital for a business to present information in such a way that it attracts the reader’s attention and gives them a clear understanding of the message; without being boring and tedious to read! It is also important as it tells the consumer what they’re reading and why it’s important to them.

This is what makes it critical in both print and web media. This is why there are a few things to consider when you are arranging typography.

Applications

To arrange Typography in advertising, the key factors are: font, point size, colour and line length. Type must be readable and visually appealing. When it comes to the web, presenting information is essential because readers want to get the information they're looking for as quickly as possible. The quicker they get this information, the less likely they will bounce off your website.

Why is it useful?

Web designers must use headings and other such elements in order to set a hierarchy. Typography influences how readers

process information, and the most successful typography also engages the consumer.

It also boosts your Search Engine Optimisation. Google isn’t only looking for keywords they are also looking for good content. This means that if you have well arranged text on your website, Google is more likely to boost your ranking.

We understand this at 07 Heaven Design. That's why we always make sure that your text is exactly what your clients want to read.
